Feed back?

What could be the start of a longer Saiyuki fic. Written during a staff meeting, I was just thinking about escaping. Apparently my Hakkai Muse agreed.

In 100 years no one would remember. Or at least, no one would remember the truth. Crusading monks and daemons, and gods who came down and walked the Earth, would be nothing more than fairy tales. In a thousand years it wouldn’t be remembered at all.

He wondered if he would still be around in 1000 years. He wondered if anyone would remember him.

In the years that had passed since the end of the minus wave, those youki who had survived had gone into hiding. Those that had survived.

When the wave receded it had left devastation in its wake. Bodies littering the countryside, towns filled with nothing but corpses, all ravaged by a madness whose cure had, perhaps, been worse than the affliction itself.

No one had told them that this was how it would end. They had thought they were saving the world. Hadn’t realized they were only saving one world. A world in which youki had no place.

There's something tickling the back of mind about this...would anyone actually read it, if I wrote a sort of future piece from this?

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO niiiiice. I like this! I would definately read more of this. Question tho, is there some way for youkai to tell youkai w/ limiters on apart from humans?? 'cause it'll be a major give-away if a youkai-on-limiters married a human and had a red-haired kid...unless you are specifically implying a separate society rather than just limited youkai wandering around...

But what do you do if the number of youki who remain are so few that their children could be written off as being "strange" and not necessarily "half-breed"?

Because, in 1000 years it might be an insult to call someone "daemon child" because they have red hair, but who would actually believe it? People might live their whole lives, daemon blood running in their veins, and have no idea.

But if there was one man who remembered? Ah. See, it comes back to the fact there are details we just don't know. How long will these guys live if the journey doesn't kill them?

like, it's not even the strangeness...it's also the "Who have you cheated on to produce a kid with red hair? *I* don't have red hair and *you* don't have red hair...."

And also I'm not sure how the inheritance worked out. Nii mentioned that half-breeds are sterile, but damn if I'm gonna fully believe Nii, 'cause Minekura plays tricks with that anyways.

How long will these guys live if the journey doesn't kill them?

Which is a good point all around, there have been fic that have them at normal lifetimes and fic where they live centuries. You can play it either way =)

I'd certainly read it. It's a definite danger, extrapolated from the Minus Wave.

The futility of their journey is a little depressing, ne?

All I could think of, as this little idea came into my head, was of Hakkai looking back and realizing he helped to wipe nearly an entire race off the planet.

A vacine that kills more of the population than it saves. How do you live with that kind of guilt? And how do you not blame the people who knew this was coming for putting you in that position?

nothing to do with your fic which I have not yet read but will

Awesome. Awesome.

I think that may get a mention up top...Bwahahaha!

And, dude, I absolutely believe that the x-men could flourish in San Diego. We are so the superhero city of the future.

read fic deeply confused

Whilst I support you in all creative endeavors that don't suck, I really have no idea what's going on in this piece. The key, I suppose, would be reading or viewing Saiyuki, neither of which I have done. Such the worse is my life for me.

[identity profile] nightfallrising.livejournal.com 2004-12-09 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Absolutely. The question of aftermath is a loomer in Saiyuki. Minekura's hinted at what it's going to be like, and it's going to be bad. And as they say, the reward for a job well done is another job...

It's the little things that stick...Like the fact that no one believed that it was actually even possible for a human to become youki, that Hakkai's change was legend. And how many half-breeds are really out there? And even if Goku wears a limiter, he's not human, OR youki.

Alright, maybe these aren't little things, but they're things so big that I think they get over looked.

'Cause really, what's the average lifespan of a human-turned-youki? We tend to just assume a natural life span, but who's to say the supernatural element of their change wouldn't make them something completely other. The same can be said for Goku. Look how little he aged in 500 years. Unless he's killed, how long do you think he'd live?

And what of the potential medical issues that arise when you mix two different species? So he's sterile. There's a start. But what of other issues that might manifest as he grows older. We forget, I think, how young these boys are. 22, 23. I mean, I'm older. (shut up, 24 is OLD :-P)

Most importantly, we must remember that for all his super-sanzo power, Sanzo, is simply human. Even if he makes it through this whole mess, he's got, what? another 60 years tops. Compared to some of the others running around, that nothing.

I think the question becomes, what if Hakkai is around in several thousand years? He's around and he's the only one.
