Characters: Gojyo, Hakkai.
There were two boxes, neither large, and three bags, only half full. Resting on top of the stack was a small paper sack that looked like a packed lunch.
“So this is it?” his arms folded across his chest, Gojyo wasn’t sure whether it was too stop his heart from leaping out of his body or to keep him from dragging Hakkai bodily into the house.
“Yes.” Hakkai’s gazed roamed over the small stack of belongings. “Not much, is there?”
“Nope.”
“I hope that I’m not--“
“You aren’t.”
“Well, yes, but I’d hate you to think—“
“I don’t.”
“Ah.”
“Just,” Gojyo stepped forward hefting a crate, “grab something already. This stuff isn’t moving itself.”
Hakkai nodded, but remained where he was.
“You know, you don’t have too.” Gojyo paused on the threshold looking back, “I mean no one’s forcing you.” He gave as much of a shrug as he could with his arms full and Hakkai noticed for the first time how tightly Gojyo held the box.
“No. I have to.” Taking a bag in one hand he reached out with the other, straightening Gojyo’s collar, “I have to stay with you. You don’t even know when trash day is.”
Half-assed musing today. Don't know how I feel about this one...

I needed something calm and promising today. Thanks.
The collar moment is perfect. I can't get him to admit that it was actually straight before, but either way it's a telling communication.

The trash day line is one of my favorites in the series. And I love what you do with the box metaphor--it reminds me of a wonderful poem I read by...erg...whathisname, about carrying grief like a heavy box...*rambles*
*wry* I liked.

...But which poem? I'd love to see it.
