My kid sister, Bear, is at college at Rice University in Houston. She's just been evacuated to Dallas.

She's going to call me when she gets in. Apparently it's normally an eight hour drive, but right now it's 12 and the main freeway out of Houston as North-bound traffic going in all lanes. My mother is all worried and I can't blame her.

First paycheck from the new job? May end up flying Bear home.

*hugfret* Omigosh, dear. I hope things turn out okay. That's really scary.

There's some related discussion about Texas locales and risk zones (http://www.livejournal.com/users/telophase/269751.html) in the comments to this post on [livejournal.com profile] telophase's LJ, here. Your sister *should* have plenty of time to get out, even with the long drive, and then she'll just be in for some heavy rain.

*hugs* Thanks.

She'll be fine, she's tough, I just worry because, well, it's my job as a big sister.

*nodnod* She'll be fine. She's gotta be. She's Bear.

Thanks, babe.

And yeah, she's leaving at midnight, 1:00am and should get in some time tomorrow morning. She's calling me and then my folks, so I'm sure she'll be fine.

It's just hard to have to hear about how much everyone there is going to loose. Especially considering how much Bear worries about these kinds of things. She wants to help and to have to leave when there are so many people who -really- don't have anything... *wry smile* Her worry is contagious.

*big middle-of-the-night hugs* Yeah, I do believe what you said above. She's your little sister - she'll be fine. *G* You guys are tough. But yeah. Keep us closely posted anyways. ♥♥

I'm sorry about that, hun. My little sister happens to be at SMU. I really hope Rita doesn't gain that much momentum near Texas. But I'm sure Bear will be fine. *hugs*

Yikes, I didn't know they were evacuating Texas. But then again, that is Bush country, so I'm sure they're going to pull out all the stops to make sure nothing happens to the fine state of Texas. Hurricane Rita better not mess with Texas!

ps/I'm sure your sister will be fine :]

No word yet, but I'm sure she'll be fine. I figure news will travel pretty fast once we know where she is and all that.

*hugs* Thanks, darlin'.

Thanks, I'm sure she'll be fine. I mean, they left with plenty of time to spare, so we're not too worried. I just hope her apt. isn't too damaged when she goes back.

But how are you doing? Haven't see much of you lately, hope everything is going well on your end! *hugs*

Yeah, Bear's super tough. She is my little sister after all. Heh. *G*

And, yeah, it's looking like the most the rest of Texas should feel is a lot of rain. So once they're out of the immediate range of the storm it should be all good.

*hugs* Crazy Texas-livin' sisters! XD

Heheeh. Oh, you know they're all about savin' "his" people. Hmph.

What's really tragic are those people who evacuated after Katrina and who are now being forced to do it all over again. There's some wicked bad Karma goin' on there. Wicked bad.

*laughs* Dude, the sister will be fiiiiiine. Really just hopin' for an excuse to come home. She misses the beach XD

Hopefully by now you've heard from her, but either way she's in my prayers. Uncertainty is rough.

No word yet, but I left a message for my parents and they'll get back to me as soon as they hear something.

Really, at this point, I think a big part of it is that all the phone lines in Texas are busy with people trying to do exactly what I am, and get in touch with their friends and family. I won't be surprised if I get an email before I actually get the Bear on the phone.

It's funny how often that (ie. email being more efficient that the 'phone) turns out to be the case. My grandfather's getting rather hard of hearing in his dotage, so reaching him by phone can be tricky, but send the man an email and you're sure to hear back within minutes. *laughs* Ah, the fun of technology.
