Anyone ever heard "Rain City" by Turin Brakes? Yeah, it's good times. So I was thinking, "Hey, this is a good song. I shall go to Amazon and buy the down load for $0.99, and all will be good."

Except. It's like fifteen minutes and costs like three bucks.

Anyone out there willing to upload it for me 'cause you love me? Please?

*pulls out the puppy eyes*

You guys are AWESOME!

In other news it was like 75 degrees today and holy CRAP I missed the sun. We had La Salsa for lunch and then ice cream at Coldstone. All of which we ate outside while staring at fountains. There are times when I love San Diego like burning.

And then we got a single tank of gas for $50 and I remembered why we're moving away as soon as Karot graduates. Dargh.

aquabean: (Capture. Hold.)
I have a cold again. Which seems like the only time I post here, but I feel there are a few folks I have been lax in talking to recently and they should know why.

Also, Facebook totally owns me. Wow so fun and weird and fun and random all the people from high school and college that I've found. Though mostly college. Awww, I miss Kenyon.

Let's see, other news since I'm here and coherent for a few minutes in a row...

- Dad got a MacBook today for when school starts at the end of the month (he's going to be 57 on the first of October and this will be his first quarter at UCSD where he'll be getting a BA in English Literatures. I'm kind of stupid proud of him).

- Dad's MacBook came with a free iPod Nano. Which he gave to me. It's blue and named Ben and I <3 both it and my papa for being so sweet to me.

- Karot has been working lots this summer and between us we've managed to have some fun, visit some people close by, and spend some really quality time with both our families.

- Karot's Grandmother died the day after labour day, but everyone is holding up well. We spent time with her parents and it was just nice. Also, I think they don't hate me, so that leaves me thrilled in an entirely selfish way.

- My own Gma turns 93 this upcoming Tuesday, and I'm pretty stoked on that. She's had shingles for the past couple of months, which has been rough, but she's pulling along okay and just as wacky as ever. My parents are spending pretty much all their free time up at her place now, and it's interesting to watch my mother go from indulgent to frustrated to just resigned all in the space of five minutes. She has the patients of a saint, that woman.

- Bear is in Colorado right now and the family all miss her and I've finally, finally come to terms with the fact that my kid sister is the Gold Child. 'Cause she is. But somehow I'm really proud of her for that. I have this life that I'm insanely happy with, and if she can go out into the world and make her music and find that same thing for herself, then I know she'll be okay no matter what.

- We now own seven fish. Seven. This is officially the end of the line because there's just no where else to put another fish. Except for that one spot with the empty bowl on the bookcase. But we're saving that for when we find a little girl fish we just have to take home. For the time being it's staying empty.

- Today I finished reading Anne Lamott's Bird by Bird, which was exactly what I needed. Despite the fact that she says over and over all these things I already know about writing and the writing process she does it with such good humour and irreverance that it just hit home. I think I may actually have to go and get some work done sometime soon. Woe is me.

- Karot (who is sitting on the sofa with me and being sympathetic despite my constant whining about how my head is full of snot) would like it noted that just the other day we watched My Neighbors the Yamadas, and loved every minute of it. It's not often that you find movies like this, stories that told for the sheer joy of the moment, with genuine whimsy. That's right, it's whimsical, and perfectly lovely. There's laughter that stems from the truth of family, and other moments that nothing more that happily absurd. There is even one perfect scene of quiet personal tragedy that made me smile because of the truth of it all.

- Karot starts school at the end of the month with my dad, and she's getting geared up for it slowly but surely. It means fewer work hours but more time doing work at home. It also means more time figuring out work schedules and bus routes and all kinds of things. It also means I get to wander around campus and pretend I'm a student. ...I wonder if I'll run into Papa. Heh.

- "High School Musical 2 was a disappointment and Corbin Bleu is still gay." Both of Karot's statements are true, though I would have to add that I did love the bit in the movie where Chad and Ryan traded shirts between scenes. I want to know what went down in the locker room to make that happen.

- Vanessa Hudgens, star of the previously mentioned HSM world, recently made the news because someone leaked naked pictures she took of herself when she was like 15. What makes this amazing was that my dad knew about it.

Scene: *follows a conversation between Karot and myself about Ashley Tisdale and how we <3 her while in the car with dad after work today*
Dad: *driving* Yeah, some Disney girl had naked pictures on the internet--
Me and Karot: Vanessa!
Dad: --They said it was going to ruin her career but I don't buy it. I'd never even her of her before now.
Me and Karot: *give him gossipy details on the story*
Dad: Well, times sure have changed. I mean, it's not like that's not how she is all the time under her clothes anyway.
Karot: Magic nakedness!
Dad: Heh.

- The KFC across the street from us is now surrounded by a chain-link fence with a large white banner reading, "Closed for remodeling" and then address of the next closest KFC. This would be less wildly entertaining if the building were, in fact, still standing. You rather reassess your definition of "remodeling" when faced with a lot composed of nothing more than one unlit KFC bucket and a whole lot of dirt.

- My only real concern with the new Pod is that I'll get too caught up in listening to Prairie Home Companion podcasts or something and forget to look before crossing the street and die.

That about sums it up for meaningful content over here. It's time for dinner and then bed (boo work at 7am I'm still not sure I'll be well enough to go to), besides which all those fish need feeding too. Maybe that's why it looks like they're all giving me the stink-eye from the tops of their bowls.
aquabean: (Bad Hoodoo)

It should be noted that LJ has been eating ALL my comment emails and apparently has been for some time. So. If you responded to me and I never got back to you and you thought I should have? Well. Yeah. Let me know now? Ahurrr way to go sixA.

aquabean: (History)
First day off in a while. Had good news and bad news and now I'm just tired.

I love my job. Or. Well. Not precisely. I love the company I work for. But I've come to the realization that the job I do is... not going in the direction that I want and I'm bored. Which makes me less productive. Which makes me paranoid. Which makes me tired.

In this case I think it's a little less about performance anxiety than the fact that I'm over qualified and under-stimulated, and just not making enough money to not be anxious about that instead.

All drama with my family is a post for later. Though that makes me even more tired.

But at least my fish are doin' awesome. ...Kinda need to clean the new kid's bowl. Hm. Maybe later. I've got nothin' else to do but dishes anyway.

ETA: Okay, so even if the job front is discouraging, reading Die Hard slash over at [livejournal.com profile] hard4brains helped. Heh.

Papa and sister came home last night after two months out of the country.

I have the most wonderful, patient, loving girlfriend in the history of girlfriends.

My dog bite is doing much better, really only being a little bit of a bone bruise on the back of my hand.

I have four days off in a row starting today. Which will include a walk around our neighborhood, a trip to the farmer's market, cleaning the fish bowls and possibly the watching of some movies. It will definitely include general laziness and unrepentant lounging.

...ohmyGod is it good to be home again.
aquabean: (Roy - Face.)
[livejournal.com profile] karotsamused here.

And I quote, from the grumpy pink ball on the sofa:

"No burning beans. Beans are not for burning. Evil sun. Whoever heard of wanting crispy beans? That's just gross. You're s'posed ta cook 'em in a crock pot for like eight hours. Ararararargh."

We went to the beach yesterday. This little karot got her shoulders done medium rare. Rune is one burned little bean. She had to come home from work early 'cause she was feeling awful D:

She is now sympathetically watering our plants. Just in case they're dehydrated too. <3

I am going to make her take a tepid shower and then smother her under cool wet washcloths while I make dinner and stuff. Poor burny bean.

aquabean: (Ed - Leadeth me to lie beside still wate)
It is 5:29 am. I have to leave for work in the next five minutes while hopefully keeping rather unusually spazy poodles from escaping.

My girlfriend is getting her wisdom teeth out today and won't be home until Thursday or Friday and I miss her already. Sleeping in that stupid bed isn't as comfortable with only one person.

Last night I somehow convinced myself I was either going to sleep through the alarm on my phone or the Gma was going to fall down in the night while going to the bathroom and die and I was going to miss it, so I keep waking up ever hour and a half and now I just want to go home, feed my fish and sleep in my own bed. That or go and check on my girl to see how she's doing. Mrr.

Fortunately mama gets back from Puerto today, or at least her flight gets in. I pick her up down by the border (The KFC down by the border because she is awesome and random. HEH.) tomorrow morning, making tonight my last night away from my own bed for a while.

...When Karot gets home I may hole us up in the apartment for several days and just ignore the world in favor of quality time spent staring at the fish.

It should be noted that Karot and I are Officially moved out of the old place. Left the keys on the counter along with a forwarding address and cruised on out the door.

...wow. Hee. It's all kinds of odd and relief filled and everything. Does kind of mean I really DO have to finish unpacking all those books now. Eh heh.
aquabean: (Gojyo - omgwtfbbq)
Kitchen is now approximately 70% clean. The rubber gloves were a God-send and I fully intend to use them when I've worked up the nerve to tackle the stove. *shudders* Ew stove.

In other news we're now about to put together an unreasonably large number of boxes and then drive several of said boxes (once filled) to the new apartment. Whee to moving in by fits and starts.

It's eight o'clock and we need to find some leftovers to eat. I'm thinkin' maybe that KFC. Mmm.
aquabean: (Roy - evil laugh)
Copied almost exactly from an email just sent to the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] ranalore:

Oh! Oh! Speaking of things vaguely related to my utter lack of self-organization (and I really am about to post about this, promise!) I got a full-time job at [Job of Excellence and Joy]! Not the crazy cool one I was hoping for, but still. 37-39 hours a week at my current pay rate is still better than I've been doing that means we can afford to move. Also to make a budget. And I get benefits! Eeesh! I could -- omg -- go to the doctor when I don't feel well! XD

*Oh how I do love quoting the Bear. Her battle cry of victory is just so satisfying somehow. Unf.

Karot here.

Rune: *driving the car doo doo doo*
Rune: *sneezes three times in rapid succession*
Rune: *shakes herself... looks around, then up, very much a deer in headlights*
Rune: *...* *shakes herself again and drives*
Me: ...You okay?
Rune: Aaaaaahhh.
Me: Sneeze your brains out?
Rune: Yus. I had a moment where I forgot where I was, and then I was like WHY AM I DRIVIN A CAAAR?
Rune: *flaaaaaaily!*
Me: So what you're saying is that when you looked up just then it was the look of "Holy crap! A moonroof!"
Rune: asdf;lkjadsgh *flail flail flaaail* a;ldkf
Rune: ... Rar.
Me: *this is meeeee laughing at yooooou*

...My girlfriend is made of win and awesome. Srsly. There are no words for how hard I laughed.
aquabean: (ohfucktrouble.)
...dang it. Totally want a tattoo again.

Someone either talk me out of this or give me ideas. Wrrrrrrrrry.

Medical poll 'cause it's too early to call and worry my mom like I just did my girlfriend.

I made it through a whole day of work yesterday, and even a an hour and bit at a family dinner last night.

Except now I've lost the ability to breath through my nose and sleep in exchange for a cough that doesn't come up too often but when it does is genuinely painful, and a sneeze. Seriously. It's kinda life vomiting my brains out. Who sneezes like that?

This can't be just a cold. It's gotta be the flu or something. I don't remember being this sick for this long in ages. Ugh.

Can't afford to skip any more days of work, but I'm also not sure I can handle my Sunday inventory hours. 6pm-2am? I have Monday off, but I worry being up and on my feet for that long, that late might kill me.

Dunwanna die.

Jan. 4th, 2007 08:57 am
aquabean: (stagger... ing)
It's not fair. Usually when a person is sick and work is skipped because of this, there's some sense of "Whew. I think maybe I feel a little better already."

But not today. All I can think about is that I've missed two full days of work and now fail at life.

Stupid defeatist attitude that comes with being sick.

Going to work tomorrow. No. Matter. What. RAR.

...in the mean time I'm going to drink Thera-flu and hope that my stupid stupid fever goes down.

Nuh huh.

So. Um. I know a couple people (Where "people" in this case should be translated to ready [livejournal.com profile] karotsamused and myself) who would very, very much like to get their hands on the manga of Ouran High School Host Club.

If any of you happen to either have it and are willing to share, or happen to know of a place where I might be able to get it, that would be most excellent.

In other news, I recently realized it's been MONTHS since I last did a "State of the Rune" type post and a fair number of you may think I'm dead by now. Hopefully some time today or tomorrow I'll actually pull my brain together enough to post one. In the mean time, have a very short list:

1. Lost job.
2. Found two jobs.
3. Have most wonderful girlfriend ever.
4. Getting up at 3:00am for work teh suckzorz.
5. [livejournal.com profile] karotsamused, [livejournal.com profile] bruisezonherego, [livejournal.com profile] cindelius and I make some seriously kick-ass christmas cookies. Rar.
aquabean: (Ninja fight ninja!)
So. Hi, again, this is [livejournal.com profile] karotsamused hijacking the Livejournal again.

I just did one of the grossest things that I've ever done.

You see, back in...when was it, January? Rune got a watermelon to get ready for her birthday party. It went unused, ignored, and acquired a home atop the refrigerator.
A few weeks ago, we noticed it growing things.
Today, we got home from a nice dinner at Panda Now and Rune turned to me, saying, "...Does this apartment smell funny to you?"

We plastic-bagged our hands, Rune got up on a chair, and I held the garbage bag while we slid putrid watermelon off of the top of the refrigerator, and I ran it out to the dumpster as fast as I could. On the way, the bag creaked like breaking, and the watermelon refused to enter the dumpster until I gave it a good what-for. I was terrified of that watermelon.
The smell was not unlike sour death.

I left Rune inside to clean off the top of the fridge, and, apparently, to speculate on the nature of our experiment in ass-nasty.

"I think sometime during the night, it lost its structural integrity, and the bottom flattened out. 'Cause if it had been smelly earlier there would have been a puddle of goo, but there was only the -outline- of a puddle of goo. Also, it was cleaned away with a 409 Multi-surface cleaner. Left a nice soapy smell. Sort of like Scrubbing Bubbles."

So now, the Watermelon Of Ages rests in the dumpster out in the garage. Man. That was a terrifying fruit.

"...I have the best girlfriend ever! Brave, facing the squishy beast!"
Damn right she does.
